So once again, it's National day again. Tomorrow will be our nation's 43rd birthday. Now, as you know ,normally every year ,there would be a song for National Day. However,this year, I couldn't find the MV screening on the television. This prompted me to go to YouTube to find this year's song which is 'Shine for Singapore'. After that,I began searching for all the old songs for comparison. Some of the NDP songs were pretty good and I will be posting and reviewing most of the NDP songs.
2000 - Shine on me
'Stars and crescent shine on me'
I didn't know this song very well as I was only 5 years old that time. I don't remember anything then.=( The song were quite good. Most of the shots were taken at the HDB estates. It seemed reasonable as HDB estates were new at that time.You can also see the past of our CBD(Central Building district).It sure evolved much from 2000 to 2008.=)
2001 - Where I Belong
'Where I keep my heart and soul'
One of the classics.It's one of my favourites.=) More shots from the CBD.The HDB estates received no coverage this time though.
2002 - We will get there
'Look where we are,we've come so far'
I didn't know the song at first when i heard the title.I thought it wasn't an NDP song.I was wrong.the tune is familiar but I didn't hear it when I first heard the title.The CBD was upgraded and the Esplanade finally makes an appearance!
2003 - One United People
'Rainbow of a thousand colours, lighting up the sky'
And I thought this was an old song.Breakdancing finally makes an appearance.The MV focuses on many different cultural and reflects on Singapore multi-racialism.
2004 - Home
'Sail down the river which brings us life'
Classic.This is probably the most well-known NDP song.It was sung by Kit chan and Lin Jun Jie for the NDP.The choirs of Tampines Primary and another school also covered this song in it's MV.the MV is basically the choir singing on a vehicle that is winding through the roads near the Singapore River.
2005 - Reach out for the sky
'We'll soar up high'
Large differences with the others.More hip-hop-ish.Well-liked by young people when it first came out.I personally found it quite bland.No offense though.
2006 - My Island Home
'Sing a song of home.A land of peace'
One of my favourites.Nice tune and nice MV.I particular love the MV for the night scenes in the CBD.Visually stunning.
2007 - There's no place I'd rather Be/Will you
'Will you take this island and turn it from a place'
Okay-okay.Sounded normal to me.It was quite bland too.No offense tho.I just have nothing to comment on.
2008 - Shine for Singapore
'This is your song'
Okay.The song can be quite bland when you first hear it but when you listen to it often enough,you can really appreciate the music.
